So, given that you're a Christian, is it just Marshall who is ignorant, or would you say that anyone who doesn't believe is ignorant? Do you think people like me who don't believe are just plain ignorant? If you do, then it is YOU who are ignorant.

Hi, Doubting John.

Me calling Marshall Brain ignorant is not really because of his unbelief, per se. It's really about his complete lack of knowledge of any legitimate arguments made for Christianity, or any evidence for it, which is why his arguments are so juvenile. I certainly don't believe all atheists act this way; there are many atheists who I believe are well educated very well informed of rational defenses of Christianity, and yet don't believe. Given what I know of you and your studies, I wouldn't call you ignorant of Christianity. Marshall Brain, however, is not one of those people.

Looks like a promising site. I admire that you are adressing christians and atheists. Looks like i'll need another sub folder "other peoples a/spiritaul blogs"

Pat, I am trying to work out, in my blog not so much the different arguments pro/con Chrisitanity. But philosphically both ways, trying to deterimine the line between delusion and misstranslated common "spiritual" experience.

On one hand god can be seen as imaginary, but on the other hand the things people praise in a group is something they each experience individaully. (by passing temporarilly the complication of mass hysteria) And it seems that many common unseeking believers HAVE an imaginary god. That is the god-thing that atheists have a feild day with.

But i am not so sure the common Atheist has looked very far beyond debunking and gloating over their victories in logic against the Bible to actaully disproove the possibility for god itself.

Where is the Atheist devil's advocate? It is too easy to beat up strawmen, even well made starw men. But anthropologically and baised on world wide application of the *god-idea* with it's many uses and interpretations and practices and methods of "worship" it seems to me Too easy to make sites like god is imaginary.

I cant currently define my position without sounding like like i am speaking of square cirles, i am just recently learning how to put together intelectible words on it with the help of some atheists willing to let me ask, and tell me when i am full of crap.

So i do look forward to garnering what i may from looking over your site.

I Came across a video series on youtube titled: "Why young earth creationists must deny gravity." It's a fascinating series detailing the multiple, independent techniques used to determine how many light years objects are from us, which is what is used to determine the true age of the Universe. It goes into detail about all the "theories" with no evidence that creationists have come up with to try to explain it away, and then debunks them all.

Here's the first part in a 5 part series debunking the "theories:"

I was shocked to find the youtube video of proving that God is imaginary... I was a bit naive in believing that people let others have their beliefs. I was pleased to see that someone stepped up to answer in a logical and researched way. In response to Loftus on here I would have to clarify that anyone who speaks without thinking or argues for something they have no knowledge of is ignorant. We are each ignorant in some way, unless you know EVERYTHING. A random quote that I enjoy:
You see many stars at night in the sky but find them not when the sun rises; can you say that there are no stars in the heaven of day? So, O man! because you behold not God in the days of your ignorance, say not that there is no God. ~Voltaire
(From a writer not known for being compassionate towards religion by the way).

Hello, I don't believe Marshall Brain is ignorant, since he uses logic consistently. I don't think an ignorant person would be able to do that. With that said, I have read some of your arguments as well, and some of them seem ok, but you rely too much on what the bible says, which is very circular in my opinion. Why? because relying on the Bible, is assuming that it is God who inspired it, therefore it is God's word. See the circle? In any case, everyone is free to believe in whatever they want, but I think that Christianity is losing believers, because people are starting to think. It is the same reason Emperor Constantine imposed Christianity, because he knew he could control people at that time with it, so now the time has come to open everyone's mind, and in the future, people will see Christianity as something that was impeding our progress.

Alejo,

Ignorance has nothing to do with the ability to use consistent logic. It has everything to do with how much knowledge one has of a given subject matter.

The arguments Marshall Brain makes about Christianity are very revealing in that it demonstrates that he's very ignorant of many logical defenses of the faith.

I do. But I have never used that argument. Not once on this entire blog do I refer to the Bible as God's inspired word because it says so. I even tend to take a much more relaxed view of inspiration than many Christians do, so I'm not entirely sure what you're on about.

What I HAVE done is correct Marshall's poor usage of the Bible to make his points. If Marshall Brain makes an argument from scripture, I will show it to be invalid. Furthermore, when we are discussing the evidence of Jesus's life, using the Bible is not circular by any means.

Hello, I am a member on the WWGHA Forum. My handle is 'Irish' on the site. Here is the address of the forum:

www.whywontgodhealamputees.com/forums

A recently created member by the monoker of aaronk1994 posted a new thread directing us to your blog.

I also see that an Admin from our site has also posted a comment that you have oh so conveniently skipped over. I'll repeat what he said. If these ideas, theories, and proofs you have are well thought out and "hold water" then you would have no problem debating them to the well versed and intelligent group at WWGHA.

This is an open invite to debate us on any of your material. I assure you that there are many members from all areas of life and all interests, whether it be biology, chemistry, philosophy and logic, mathematics, cosmology, or just an interest in religion, you'll find it.

And here is what the Admin had to say, since you seemed to have skipped over it:

"If you have the courage and intellect to debate our learned members in the open, please join the forum.

Cheers,

Admin 1"

Hopefully you will show up.

Irish,

Before you accuse me of "skipping over" anything, you should probably check the very forum you've invited me to. Notice that I went there and posted several times, in the very thread you mentioned. I even responded to the Admin's invitation with, initially, a decline.

This refusal has nothing to do with my "courage" or "intellect." I've been to the WWGHA forums on a number of occasions. Both times, the experiences were negative. I had to spend an inordinate amount of times debating issues that have no scholarly support (the idea that Jesus didn't exist, for example. Your forum is unfortunately infected with many people who seem to subscribe to that. I hope you know that this is atheism's equivalent of Young Earth Creationism. Imagine your frustration if the majority of people on a Christian forum you were debating were YECs and frequently changed the subject to argue Young Earth Creationism instead of whatever you're talking about, and you'll understand why my experiences at WWGHA have been negative.)

I did, of course, say that I might be willing to consider a one-on-one debate with one of your members. Unfortunately, that comment of mine appears to have been "skipped over."

Uh, you seem like a pretty smart guy and all, so can you PLEEEEEASE come to the Religion and Spirituality section of Yahoo answers??? Christians are a little weak there and I think it would be pretty nice if you could help them out a little. It's a complete war going on there. It's actually kind of fun too. I've spent hours answering atheists' questions.

And I'm pretty sure a guy like you must have already read this, but I can't be too sure: http://www.cosmicfingerprints.com/audio/newevidence.htm

It seems to me your bottom line attack on the 10 Questions/"Why Won't Got Heal Amputees" video, can be summed up with "Because God Works In Mysterious Ways". In other words, some people prayers God answers, some he doesn't answer, some starving people he helps, others he leaves to us to help, some things in the Bible are true, some are metaphor, some are true for the time they are written, but not automatically to be judged by today's standards, etc.

So I have two questions for you: If God works in mysterious ways, would it be possible for God to create a phony bible (like the Old and New Testaments), that were full of nonsense just to test us?

If God truly is mysterious, why assume that anything in the bible can be extrapolated as "100% true"? Why assume we can know God at all?

If that is too much for you to accept as an idea, then how about this: God created the bibles to be 100% metaphor and simile. You've already implied that some things in these texts are metaphor. Why not the whole thing? Who are we to say that this is not the case?

Additionally: If my friend said she saw Jesus, and Jesus told her to spread the word that the bible was no more than metaphor and simile - who are you to prove her wrong?

Patrick Dunnevant believes in " punishment " instead of " murder ". Do you want to kill anyone, Patrick?

So, I can make rules, kill someone, and say I punished them,
right?

If you say " only god can make rules ", well who are YOU to judge who can a can't make rules?

Yet, the Bible says nowhere about exceptions to murder, all it says is " Thall shalt not kill ", I doesn't even say it's okay to kill animals.

So, I don't want to kill you, I just want to punish you.
